Why You Don’t Have To Be On Social Media

Posted inBuild, Grow, Start

I recently had a conversation with one of my mastermind members who has so much DEMAND for her and her team that she needs to hire several more team members to keep up with the demand. We were discussing her goals and she said a big focus of her’s was “I need to start making reels for the business” and I asked why. “Because I need to market the business.”

She’s right in theory – but the logic is off.

She ALREADY has more demand than she can handle for her AND her team. But it’s not wise to ever stop marketing your business, right? Her goal of learning how to be better at marketing is great – but from my perspective it’s not the best use of her time and energy right now, why?

Because she has marketing that is ALREADY killing it for her! And she hasn’t posted one reel… weird, right? This is the conversation that sparked this episode.

Fully Booked Beauty Businesses Don’t Rely on Just ONE Marketing Platform

  • Instagram is only ONE marketing channel out of 100s of ways to market yourself.
  • You do not own the platform – therefore putting all your eggs in one basket means you MUST adapt your marketing strategy at all times to the changing updates – who has time for that?
  • It is NOT where the booking happens. It is where you create a relationship with the customer to send them to book with you.

Social Media Should Be FUN

  • In order to be consistent on the platform and adapt your marketing to whatever changes may come – your perspective on the platform needs to switch from “I have to post on social media because I’m a business owner” to “I GET FREE ACCESS to my potential customers with this amazing tool!”.
  • If you show up on social media because you have to – it won’t work the way you want it to. Posting to social media just to check the box of “I did marketing today” does not make anyone want to book with you. Those who use social media to MARKET their business and build relationships with potential customers are the ones winning the game on social media.
  • How can you do one thing today to make social media more fun for you or your followers? How can you show up today on social media to serve just ONE person? Stop overcomplicating it and just do ONE thing today. Here are a few ideas:
  1. Send a DM to a new follower to say hi and introduce yourself.
  2. Record a funny reel.
  3. Share a beautiful after photo of a client and describe how excited she was with the results.
  4. Go leave a comment on your favorite account’s post.
  5. Go unfollow that competitor who constantly makes you feel like you’re behind or not doing enough!

Let The Data Tell You What Marketing is Effective for Your Business

  • IMPROVE what’s already working instead of starting from scratch.
  • Referring back to my mastermind member – if you’re getting new clients fairly consistently – yet you’re NOT on social media or you haven’t done reels… then don’t go re-inventing the wheel sis!
  • Take a poll of current clients and where they found you. This should give you a list of 2-3 solid marketing channels that are working RIGHT NOW for you to draw in clients – even if you weren’t intentional about marketing in that way.
  • Word of mouth is a common example that beauty business owners don’t consider as marketing. People “just naturally” refer their friends to you… THAT’S STILL MARKETING! Imagine how many more referrals you would get if you were INTENTIONAL about asking your clients for referrals or even incentivizing them for referrals.
  • Let’s say you do get clients from Instagram – how can you be MORE intentional about connecting with your CURRENT followers and getting them to become customers rather than trying to get more attention for new followers? Chances are you’ve got a few dozen or even a few hundred followers – if the majority of those are potential clients (as they should be) – how can you serve THAT AUDIENCE better, rather than trying to get more views/eyes on posts from strangers?
  • Find the marketing that is currently working to get you new clients and double down on improving the marketing that is already working with intention and strategy!

So do you HAVE to be on social media to become fully booked? Heck no! It’s a free and somewhat simple marketing channel to build a relationship, but it is not the ONLY way to build a relationship with a potential client .
