Mindset Matters in Business with Skin CEO Host Heather Terveen

Posted inBuild, Grow, Start

The results you currently have (or don’t have) in your business come 100% down to the thoughts and beliefs you hold. Whether that’s intentionally or unintentionally.  My guest expert, Skin Care Business Coach and host of the Skin CEO podcast, Heather Terveen, created “The Belief Diamond” to help her SKIN CEO clients have a framework to follow when they’re limiting their growth and potential with their own mindset and beliefs.

Here’s what Heather shares about the Belief Diamond.

The Belief Diamond

Picture 4 points on a diamond. As a beauty business owner, if you’re lacking belief in any of these four key areas you are limiting your growth (often times, unintentionally).

  • Belief in YOU. (your abilities/talent/expertise, your unique selling point)
  • Belief in your OFFERS. (your services and treatments and products)
  • Belief in your CLIENTS. (that they are ready, willing and able to purchase your offers)
  • Belief in your MARKET. (that it’s not too competitive, that there is an abundance of business waiting for you)

Beliefs are thoughts we have over and over again intentionally or unintentionally. Here are 3 examples of how limiting thoughts might be playing out in your beauty business right now.

1. The “My clients can’t afford it…”  Belief

    • “People-pleasing pricing” theory – this theory happens when you limit your pricing, packages and recommendations based on trying to manage how your clients’ might feel about them or your beliefs about their ability to pay for additional services, upgrades or higher priced services.
    • The Perspective Shift: If you have been marketing with this thought unintentionally running in the background, most likely you have attracted some clients who are more price sensitive. BUT many times we spend too much time worrying about what our clients might think when pricing our offers or packages that we actually limit the best outcome opportunity for the client.

2. The “Selling is spammy/pushy/icky” Belief

  • Welp, we could spend the whole dang episode just talking about this one topic. This will be the Achilles heel of your success if you don’t work through overcoming this belief as selling is a part of business ownership.
  • The Perspective Shift: Selling is making offers to help (serve). Every time you “sell” focus on what problem you are solving or the outcome you know your best clients are wanting and getting from your services. This will help you eventually transform this belief to…”selling is serving” or “selling is helping” which is a much more freeing and empowering belief to hold.

3. The “There’s just too much competition in my area” Belief

  • Ultimately, what you focus on grows, so if you focus on how many other businesses or service providers there are around you – you will see signs of saturation and an abundance of competition. Not a belief that is very motivating!
  • The Perspective Shift: If you choose to direct your brain to see what all your peers are doing then you will grow the belief that the market is too competitive. BUT where else could you direct your attention that might build a belief that would serve you more? I actually believe that we can’t train enough practitioners to keep up with the current customer demand…that this industry is exploding and still in its infancy. Could you believe that the amount of “competition” you are seeing is PROOF that there’s money to be made and demand for the services you offer? Would you rather there be ZERO people doing what you do and you have to spend all of your time and money educating people that they should be getting services they’ve never heard of and are reluctant to try because no one they know has ever had it before? Or they question why anyone would spend money on your services because they’ve never heard of such a thing?
