What to do When Running a Business Gets Tough

What to do When Running a Business Gets Tough

Posted inBuild

How many times a week (or a day) do you think about quitting?

If you’re a lash artist, I’m going to take a wild guess and assume you think about quitting periodically throughout the day. If you own your lash business, you probably think about quitting even twice as much.

But, we lash artists are NOT quitters.

The saying, “When the going gets tough, the tough get going,” does not hold any truth to it in our world. However, that’s not to say we’re exempt from moments of insecurity, self-doubt and the burning rage to throw in the towel and call it quits.

Speaking of which, I recently received a question from one of you guys that asked;

“How did you stay focused and not just want to give up as a beginner?”

Good question.

I’ve decided to dedicate an entire episode (and this blog post) to answering this question because I don’t want any of you to feel like quitting. Ever.

Although wanting to give up and go with an easier career path is totally normal, it’s definitely not a phase you want to live in forever. Nobody ever said being a business owner would be easy. If they did, they lied.

If you struggle with the temptation to quit this lashing business once and for all, let me stop you right there because we’re about to dive into the fresh perspective you should take the next time you feel overwhelmed, stuck and desperate to quit.

{If you want to listen to the podcast episode on this topic, click on the player at the top of the post. Alternatively you can watch the video below, or read on…}

1. Success doesn’t come from quitting

Being a lash artist isn’t easy and being an entrepreneur isn’t easy either. So, when you combine the two, you’ve got quite the challenge ahead of you.

When you decided to become a lash artist and start your own business, you weren’t signing up for easy, were you?

You were signing up for satisfaction, independence, freedom, and income. This isn’t the industry to be in if you want to make a quick buck. Being a successful lashpreneur takes a lot of hard work, a few tears but most of all, it takes passion and dedication.

As the business owner, you’ve got to evolve and change.

You can’t blame anyone or anything else for what you perceive to be a lack of success. That’s not how this thing works. You’ve got to take responsibility and see this thing through.

But, also understand that everyone, no matter what stage they’re at, thinks about quitting. Whether you’re a solo lash artist spreading her wings or about to launch a new product line, you’re going to face moments where you literally question everything

Lessons have a habit of disguising themselves as failures. But, in every failure, there is a lesson to be learned. It’s up to you to uncover and learn from it.

Success doesn’t come from quitting. Success comes from not giving up.

2. Your success is inevitable

Wouldn’t it be great if you knew that no matter what happens, your success is inevitable?

Sure, you could argue with me on this one till the sun comes up. But, humor me for a moment and try to take the mindset that your success really IS inevitable. No matter what you do, you’re going to be successful.

Failure doesn’t live here anymore. She packed her bags and left you (and don’t you dare follow her!).

Instead of thinking that failure is always around the corner, take the mindset that your success is inevitable. With this new mindset, what does your existing problem or struggle look like?

If nothing could get in the way of your success, how would you approach the same problem or struggle that’s been stressing you out lately?

I bet you would know the answer straight away. It’s weird, isn’t it? The overwhelming fear of failure limits our beliefs and stops us from seeing clearly. It traps us in our own self-made cages, where we’re unable to break free because we don’t think we know how.

The key to free yourself from your cage of despair is to change your mindset.

Once you take failure out of the equation and put your inevitable success in its place, you’ll know exactly what you need to do to succeed and keep succeeding.

3. What is the lesson you need to learn to grow and evolve and become the biz owner you need to be?

When you feel like giving up and getting a “normal job,” it can be so disheartening. Granted, some days are better than others. If you’re having a really bad day, it’s okay to have a pity party. But, every party comes to an end and then it’s time to clean up the glitter and move on.

Don’t spend so much time dwelling on the past and things that haven’t even happened yet. When you do that, you miss out on opportunities to change your attitude and your situation.

The next time something bad happens, ask yourself what lesson you need to learn to become the lashpreneur you need to be. The lesson might not show itself straight away and that’s fine. You just need to look harder to find it.

As you grow as a business owner, you’ll keep learning new lessons because you’ll keep running into new problems. The problems never go away, and you can’t control that. But, you can control who you are and how you react, learn and grow from all of these problems.

Don’t look at struggles as negative things in your life. They are there to help you evolve and grow as a lash artist, business owner and as a person.
