How Do You Avoid Lashpreneur Burn Out?

How Do You Avoid Lashpreneur Burn Out?

Posted inBuild, Grow

Do you remember the warm, fuzzy feeling you had when you first stood up and declared –

I’M GOING TO START MY OWN LASH BUSINESS!

It was like something clicked inside of you. Suddenly, all of the little puzzle pieces of your life came together perfectly. You discovered your true calling in life, and it was a great feeling. Rewind to the present day, and hopefully, you still feel the same way about your lash business. However, don’t be too hard on yourself if you haven’t felt that warm, fuzzy feeling in a while.

Single-handedly running a business is hard work and it’s easy to burn out. You only have so much time in the day. And, as a business owner, it’s difficult to find the perfect work-life balance (if it even exists!)

You started your lash business for one simple reason – you love lashing!

And, you love making people look and feel good about themselves. It’s a worthwhile business. But, sometimes you spend so much time in your business that you don’t have any time left to actually work on it. You’ve got to keep your clients happy while simultaneously growing your business through effective marketing campaigns.

The constant pressure can be a real passion drainer. In this episode, I share three simple ways that you can get that warm, fuzzy feeling and love for your lash business that you had when you first started.

I can’t promise that by the end of this episode you’ll walk away with a roadmap to finding the perfect balance between work and life. But, I can guarantee that at the very least, you’ll walk away with a renewed passion for your artistry and your business.

1. Audit your biz, audit your life

Why are you still doing everything by yourself? It’s no wonder you’re so exhausted! The first step to rekindle your love for lashing is to audit your business and your life.

Inside The Lashpreneur Society, I teach my students how to automate, delegate or eliminate things in both their businesses and their personal lives. Think about all of the stuff in your life that you could delegate to free up time. Time that could be better spent growing your business. Spending time with your kids. Enjoying a date night with your partner. Heck, maybe you’ll even have time for your morning Starbucks again!

A few things you can automate in your business include online booking, bookkeeping, emails, product ordering, and even social media marketing. Imagine how much time that would give you! You can even delegate things in your personal life like grocery shopping, meal planning, house cleaning, and dog walking. Are you tired of editing all of your photos? Why not hire a virtual assistant to do it all for you?

The truth is, you can probably eliminate half of the things you’re doing in your business to stay busy.

Yes, I said half!

Think about it, do you really need to go to that monthly networking brunch you’ve been going to religiously for the last five months that’s never once benefited your business? Or, how about cutting back on the countless hours of your life aimlessly spent on social media?

Social media is an epic time waster. Yes, it’s great for business and networking with potential clients. But there’s a purpose to it when you do it for business. I’m talking about all the time you spend scrolling through your newsfeed going ‘awww’ at every cute puppy video you see. Or, the time you spend constantly checking your notifications and whether or not you got as many likes for the last selfie you posted as you hoped you would.

There’s nothing wrong with all of that. I can definitely appreciate a funny meme from time to time. BUT, there’s a time and a place for it. So, don’t do it when you should be concentrating on your business!

2. Clarity to reignite the passion

Sometimes when you’re feeling burnt out, all that’s missing is some clarity. Clarity on what you need to do in your business NOW so that you can actually enjoy your artistry AND make good money at it.

So, let’s put you on the metaphorical therapist chair for a moment and try to sort this out. Imagine yourself lying back on a comfy chair and start thinking about how you got here. No, I don’t mean whether you took the invisible bus or drove yourself to this metaphorical therapy session. I’m talking about how you got to the point in your business where you have ZERO time to work on the business!

Most likely, you just kept chasing the money. You got addicted to the hustle. You wanted more clients, but it came at a price. To accommodate more clients, you had to squeeze more work hours in the day, with no end in sight.

Now, take a moment to go back to the reason why you started your business. Look at the journey you’ve been on since then. Was there a pivotal point along the road where you veered off the path of creating a business that you loved?

Did you keep discounting prices in hopes that it would bring in more clients?

Did you resolve yourself to being miserable, stressed and unhappy as a part of “paying your dues” in business ownership?

Chances are, you lost your way. Maybe you started chasing everyone else’s dream of how your business should be that you lost sight of what you wanted. To overcome this, you need clarity to reignite the passion. So, say goodbye to everything that’s draining the spirit out of you and try to bring yourself back to that ‘happy place.’ All it takes is a mental reboot, I promise!

3. Start focusing on the areas that will actually GROW your business

Finally, if you’ve lost your passion for lashin, it’s probably because you’ve been spending a lot of time doing “busy work.” You’ve likely been wasting valuable time on things that don’t really have a significant impact on your business.

If you’re spending too much time taking Groupon clients, you’re wasting time with discount seekers instead of learning how to market yourself.

Are you taking on more than 5 to 6 clients per day?

You’re only setting yourself up for disappointment. Working with so many clients each day can easily lead to not only burn out, but injury in the growth of your business.

If you’re posting on social media in an attempt to get other lash artists to follow you, you’re killing your chances at potential customers ever seeing your posts! This is even worse if you’re the type of person who posts religiously on social media and yet you don’t have a website. You’re just wasting your time!

If you want to stop wasting your time, if you want to get clarity to stop working so much IN your business and start working ON it, or you want to know just exactly WHERE you should be focusing on in your business so that you can find that passion again AND get paid well for something you love to do, then you’re in the right place.
